On End December 2017, AsiaKOL 亞洲達人通 invited 3 popular Key Opinion Leaders (KOL) who came from Hong Kong (Wallace), Malaysia(Jason) and Japan(Sayuri). Together we attended an event called “Digital Singularity Award” discussing about KOL GOOD WORD OF MOUTH & MARKETING IN NEW ASIA MARKETS.

I flew to Taiwan right before Christmas as I was invited by i-Buzz & AsiaKOL to share about my experience as a Key Opinion Leader


Digital Singularity Awards is an event by DMA with the objective of sharing KOL experiences & focusing on KOL GOOD WORD OF MOUTH & MARKETING IN NEW ASIA MARKET. I will be sharing and focusing more on the culture differences cross different countries marketing. Together with me, we have 2 other youtubers participating, Wallace Yim from Hong Kong and Sayuri from Japan

To summarize the video

  1.    Before product can be launched in a market, we must identify our target market preferred language of communication
  2.    For example, in a Chinese dominant market, it is separated between the Chinese language and English language. So we have to identify our target market to ensure that our marketing activities are effective.
  3.    Taking Malaysia market as an example, Malaysia is a market where low & middle range priced products has the best sales. And as Malaysia is quite a conservative country, certain religious believe has to be taken in account as well.
  4.    Generally, premium prices gets better exposure when KOL marketing activities are done in English
  5.    Influencer agency uses different channels and media to increase their marketing exposure.
  6.    Influencers can use Instastory to increase marketing exposure as well
  7.    In at online platform, influencer can take videos or post onlines to give recommendations.
  8.    In an offline platform, its also good to build and maintain the relationship with your target markets by organizing games, events, gifts & etc

Talking with my fellow influencer, I learnt that Japan has a very complete business model. A youtuber in Japan is like an actor. Everything from shooting, fitting & video editing are done by professionals. It is very different from other countries like Malaysia & Taiwan where we the influencer has to do everything ourselves. I do envy my fellow Japan influencer and hope that I could be them as well.

Internet has the power to people close together. But is has also made the whole world your competitor. So influencer faces a lot of challenges in marketing as well.

The way to move forward is by continuous learning, never give up and keep on going. And we will be able to face all the challenges in the world.
